“Wipe Out” is Lina Wertmuller’s most famous and controversial film about sex, love and politics, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea. On an elegant yacht off the coast of Sardinia, the rich and beautiful capitalist Raffaella (Mariangela Melato) enjoys torturing the communist sailor Gennarino (Giancarlo Giannini). Fate has a different scenario and the roles are reversed when the two characters find themselves together on a desert island. Raffaella must listen to Gennarino in order to survive, which reaches a dramatic climax when they are both rescued. They must decide whether their love will survive the harsh realities of civilization.
